Arogyavaram Medical Centre was founded by Christian Missionaries from Europe during the Year 1912. The pioneers selected 350 acres of forest land in Madanapalle Town in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh and named the place as "Arogyavaram" meaning "Health, the Gift of God". The land was then developed in to extremely elegant & well equipped Hospital buildings by which were exclusively for treating Tuberculosis (TB) patients in an era where treatment for a condition like Tuberculosis was not viable. This Medical Centre was the first Sanatorium in South India for treating Tuberculosis (TB) patients and was formerly known as Union Mission Tuberculosis Sanatorium.

The 350 bedded Hospital building was inaugurated in the year 1915 by then the Governor of Madras, Lord Pentland and Dr. Christian Frimodt Moller lead the Hospital along with other European Doctors and Health Care Professionals.

With the heritage and legacy the Hospital carried throughout the years have made this place as the Central Training centres in India for training Doctors and other Health Care Professionals for of the most vulnerable conditions like HIV/AIDS.
