Mr. Richard Hickling, the Master Evangelist, who was not medically trained & his insight in to the needs of the people, especially the women dying in labor, grew as urge in him to persuade the Lonodon Mission to built a hopsital in Chikkaballapur.
In the year 1909, it was a moment of vision to reality of Mr. Richard Hickling and the first stone for a 60 bedded Hospital was laid. On 26th February 1913, Mr. P. F. Bowring who was then the Deputy Commissioner of Kolar District inaugurated the Hospital and the doors were opened to patients and Mission Hospital took its first step toward a remarkable history. The hospital, was first named after Rev. Ralph Wardlaw Thompson for his long devoted services of Foreign Society of London Missionary Society and was called as Wardlaw Thompson Hospital. Later the name was changed to CSI Mission Hospital. Within a short time, the Hospital expanded its reach to larger community.
When the Mission Hospital first began its operations in 1913, there was no insulin for diabetes or cure for polio. Penicillin had not yet been developed and open-heart surgery was only a dream. Since that time, there have been many medical breakthroughs — yet one remained constant. Hospital's commitment to providing needed medical services to the community and succeeded its mission—to transform the lives of people all for the glory of God.
The Hospital gradually increased his capacity from 60 to 150 bedded hospital & provided comprehensive health care to both Urban & Rural population by providing in-patient, outpatient and community health services and care.
Today, CSI Mission Hospital is noted as a leader among hospitals in Karnataka. The diverse workforce of dedicated Health Care Professionals who provides the absolute best care with the latest technology and medical advances in a wide range of specializations emergency medicine, neurosurgery, dialysis, gynaecology, radiology, urology, etc.
As a mission to advance the health of the community by focusing on community medicine, the Hospital and his Management realized the need for having more Nursing professionals for serving vulnerable and medically underserved populations.
The School of Nursing of CSI Hospital, was named after Sr. Morch as a tribute to the lady who devoted 30 years of her precious life with dual responsibility of maintaining of School of nursing & as a Nursing Superintendent. The school of nursing was established in the year 1913, with an initial batch of male students and training of female nursing students were started on a later stage
